Piper’s Pub
1828 E Carson St
South Side, 15203
412-381-3977
M-Sat 11am-2am (kitchen@11); Sun 11am-Midnight (kitchen@10)

My favorite time to go to Piper’s Pub is after an unsuccessful fishing trip in the canoe.  I simply MUST have the fried fish I was fantasizing about all day!  And since their fish and chips is grand (complete with malt vinegar for your fries), this is the perfect spot.  It is so delicious that I completely forget about all the humiliation I felt from not being able to hook a trout.  There are other reasons to go there too!  It is a place where you can hang your hat on a shoogly peg with a Guinness and an order of Scotch Eggs.  And whatever you bring home in the doggy bag can be bubble and squeak next eve. The Fajita Grill
5865 Ellsworth Ave
Shadyside, 15232
(412) 362-3030
T-Sun 11am-4am; 5pm-10pm

This restaurant’s name is eponymous with its specialty: fajitas.  No where around these parts will you find a finer fajita, with all the options you could dream up, and plenty of toppings.   In fact, you won’t just find fine fajitas at the Fajita Grill.  It could equally be named The Flauta House, The Quesadilla Corner, or The Molé Holé, because just about everything here is a winning dish. La Fiesta - CLOSED
346 Atwood Street
Oakland, 15213

412-687-8424
M 11:30-10; T-Sat 11:30-1am; Sun Noon-9pm

Ándale! Ándale! – grab yourself a box of corona and get yourself to La Fiesta rápido, lest you miss out on some of the best Mexican in the ‘Burgh! Naturally, it isn’t the best Mexican in the world, but in our little hometown where there are fewer Mexican joints than Indian, it ties for most authentic with Taco Loco and Mi Mexico. However, Taco Loco and Mi Mexico are both taquerias, and sometimes all you want is a little rice and beans, or a real Mexican dish like carnitas, and then you’ll want to head to La Fiesta. (more…)

Square Café
1137 S. Braddock Ave
Regent Square, 15218
412-422-8002
T-Sun 7am-3pm; Dinner: Fri & Sat 5pm-10pm

We discovered the Square Café, located in the quaint business district of Regent Square, soon after it opened. It seemed like we heard the buzz from everywhere. My friend Rachel B’s ultimate Frisbee team was being sponsored by Square Café, and she would rave about the salmon BLTs. Then my friend Rachel FS came out of nowhere going on and on about the brunch. So we gave the Square Café a shot, and it started a long love affair with oatmeal, pancakes, and breakfast quesadillas. (more…)

Hours: http://www.churchbrew.com/church_info.html

Well, isn’t this the most famous restaurant in all of Pittsburgh?  I swear, every time I talk to any sales person on the phone who has been to Pittsburgh once or twice, they all exclaim, “oh, you simply MUST try Church Brew”.  As if I don’t live here!  As if I haven’t already!  As if!  Rant aside, you too must try Church Brew, because there is a reason why people in far away and exotic lands like Nebraska have heard of it! Tessaro’s
4601 Liberty Ave
Pittsburgh, PA 15224
(412) 682-6809
M-Sat 11am-Midnight

I don’t know how the good people of Bloomfield can stand it.  I just don’t.  That smell, of the most delicious meaty goodness you’ve ever whiffed, wafting through the air … all the time!  Little seductive aromas winding their way into your nostrils and begging you to come have a bite.  It is a smell not even a vegetarian can deny awakens some primal hunger from deep within – the hunger for meat. Mad Mex
See link for location and hours:

http://www.madmex.com/locations/index.shtml

A staple of students and suburbanites alike, Mad Mex provides fairly priced, tasty chow, stays open late, and generates the best margaritas north of the Mason-Dixon line. They have all kinds of happy hours and times of day where food and drinks are half off, all of which are good deals. But probably the biggest draw of Mad Mex is that the establishment has such a good sense of humor that you just know you are going to have a good time, and you know it every time you go. (more…)
