Hi Erika:
I read your review of the Udipi Cafe in Monroeville....well, in the Cleveland area (Parma Heights to be exact) there is a Udipi Cafe. I have gone to 2 lunch buffets...one thing I will say, very little fat is used for their cooking, so the meal doesn't stay with you all day and night as with the more traditional Indian cooking where the food is loaded with fat. Some of the food was good, some was OK....I really liked the Sambar spicy soup (very tangy and spicy...not too unlike Tom Yom soup of the Thai restaurants) but the rice pudding for dessert was tasty, but basically watery and I had to add white rice to make it a "rice pudding". I like spicy food, but don't need all the fat...it's a toss-up which cooking is tastier (North vs South). Healthy...this is by far better for the innerds....the other cooking may taste better, but it is not really a healthy meal if it stays with you for a day after you ate last.
Now...while I am on your comment page....have you visited "Zenith", a vegetarian restaurant near Carson Street? This restaurant is on a corner, parking is on the street (wherever you can find a spot), has the best vegetarian brunch buffet and costs $10.00. You can't beat the value of this meal. You basically order a basic meal off the menu and then get your salads (quite a few to choose from), along with breads, pies, cakes....etc....
I recommend the Sunday brunch...although the place is open as a regular restaurant during the week. The front of the store is a junky antique shop which I have yet to figure out if anyone buys the stuff....it always looks the same & really needs to be cleaned up if the owner wants the merchandise to move....but then, it's not my store....but I go for the food. If you want to check this place out, go to www.zenith.com I think....or type in "Zenith Restaurant"....eat there and you can put your critique on your website.
By the way, my husband is from Pgh...so we come to town periodically during the year....but going to Zenith on Sunday mornings is a must...it opens at 11:00AM and there is usually a line, esp. in the good weather.

It certainly does, Larry. I think we might even need our very own Bubble Room!
